Don Thurn

Raves and Reviews

Sit back and close your eyes or dance slowly while you're listening to "Younger Than Yesterday."  You'll be transcended in 56 Ford to a countryside drive with "...colors colliding on a distant horizon" ... Experience Spring Rain under headphones to capture the full sound of instruments harmonizing to a background thunderstorm.  This songwriter understands his life's journey with his Creator in The Weaver, "... the dark threads are as needful in the Weaver's skillful hand, as threads of gold and silver in the pattern he has planned ..."  Intimate dialogue between Christ and this soul are played out in Cry of the HeartThe Dream is haunting with an underlying melody dark and searching as a relationship is revisited - "As you look back on the chapters past, the ones that included me, now that time has granted distance, I wonder what you see."  Don Thurn has proved himself here as a craftsman.  He's transformed the heart's language to song and the result is one of transcendence.

"Younger Than Yesterday" is an independently produced collection of meticulous rhythms, that reflect life's greatest joys.  From the secular to the spiritual.  Love is.  The answer.  There is certainly enough conviction in the strong songwriting to make one listen intently.  I am able to traverse back in time in my 56 Ford.  Stick my head out the window, look into the Heavens, and feel the rain drop gently upon my face on Spring Rain.  I become romantically involved with the Joni Mitchell inspired The Dream.  Borrowing from Peter Gabriel's complex rhythms, I Learn to Fly.  The session players add just enough emotion to compliment the originator's vision.  The twelve tracks that make up this collection, interpret many lives.  If I were a betting man (and I'm not), I would swear this artist has seen his share of hardships.  Only through the underbelly, can we witness the joy life shares.  Picture, if you will.  That special moment.  That special place ... that special feeling.  Don Thurn's "Younger Than Yesterday" offers you a glimpse into them all.  Pass it on.

This album was very good - well recorded and presented.  It was cohesive from start to finish in sound and production - which is unusual these days.
